Description

Session 1:

  • Positive affects and positive dyadic interaction
  • Resilience, flourishing, and the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotion

Session 2:

  • Meta-therapeutic processing and the transformational affects
  • Techniques to extend the work of treating psychological ills, symptoms, and disorders
  • The phenomenology of the transformational affects

Session 3:

  • The tremulous effects associated with the crisis of healing change and the emergence of the radiant self

Session 4:

  • The healing affects and the process of affirming recognition
  • The emergence of love, tenderness, and gratitude toward the other
  • Feeling moved within the self

Session 5:

  • The mastery affects and core state
  • The emergence and consolidation of joy, hope, gratitude, and confidence in the goodness of the self

Session 6:

  • Dealing with therapists' difficulties receiving clients' recognition and gratitude
  • Why we struggle so much
  • How to get better at taking in good stuff

Objectives:

  1. Identify the somatic markers indicating transformational opportunities
  2. Describe meta-therapeutic processing techniques that deepen mastery of the change process.
  3. Discuss the countertransference issues for therapists when they receive clients' gratitude and love.
  4. Explain the steps of recognizing emergent transformational experiences in the consulting room.
  5. Discuss how to identify the seeds of healing in a client’s trauma narrative.
  6. Define a dyadic relationship and how it impacts a client’s healing.

Diana Fosha, PhD, is the developer of AEDP (Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy), a healing-based, transformation-oriented model of psychotherapeutic treatment and she is founder and director of the AEDP Institute. For the last 20 years, Diana has been active in promoting a scientific basis for a healing-oriented, attachment-emotion-transformation focused trauma treatment model. Fosha’s work focuses on integrating positive neuroplasticity, recognition science and developmental dyadic research into experiential and transformational clinical work with patients. Her most recent work focuses on promoting flourishing as a seamless part of AEDP’s therapeutic process of transforming emotional suffering. Drawing on affective neuroscience, attachment theory, mother-infant developmental research, and research documenting the undreamed-of plasticity in the adult brain, AEDP has developed an experiential clinical practice, which reflects the integration of science, research and practice in psychotherapy.

Based in New York City, where she lives and practices, Fosha has been on the faculties of the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology of NYU and St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Medical Centers (now Mount Sinai) in NYC, and of the doctoral programs in clinical psychology at the Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University and at The City University of New York.
