Description

We all know how important it is for children to build social connections and have relationships that thrive and succeed!

We will show you how to utilize the sensory systems within activity-rich lessons to increase social skills for children with HFA, ADHD and sensory issues.

We will demonstrate sensory activities that create opportunities to increase emotional and sensory regulation that leads to social connectivity. Children will become more confident and comfortable taking social risks, preparing them for future real-time social interactions.

Social Workers - National ASWB ACE

Tara Delaney, MS, OTR/L Related seminars and products


Tara Delaney, MS, OTR/L, is a nationally known child development expert who specializes in sensory processing, autism spectrum disorders as well as learning disabilities, specifically dyslexia. She is the author of three books: The Sensory Processing Disorder Answer Book (Sourcebooks, 2008), 101 Games and Activities for Children with Autism, Asperger’s and Sensory Processing Disorder (McGraw-Hill, 2009) and Building Social Skills for Autism, Sensory Processing Disorders and Learning Disabilities with Mary Hamrick (PESI, 2015)

She holds a Master’s of Science in Therapeutic Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She is an international speaker and her Making Sense-ory® programs are in high demand throughout the United States. Ms. Delaney is the co-chief executive officer of School Steps, Inc. as well as co-chief executive director of ABA In Action. She is also the founder/executive director of Baby Steps Therapy.

Mary Hamrick, M.A., CCC-SLP, is a speech language pathologist who has been evaluating and providing direct service to students with special needs for more than 20 years. She is currently the director of speech for School Steps Inc. which is located in the Sacramento area. School Steps provides school based speech and occupational therapists to surrounding school districts and has a clinic in Rocklin, California. She is also the co-author, with Tara Delaney, of Building Social Skills for Autism, Sensory Processing Disorders and Learning Disabilities (PESI, 2015).

Mary began her career in education as a language arts teacher and has spent the past 20 years working primarily with children with Autism, Aspergers and specific learning disabilities. She has a B.S. in Education from Western Illinois University and an M.A. in Speech Language Pathology from California State University, Long Beach. Mary is an accredited member of the American Speech Hearing Association (ASHA) and holds a California license in Speech Pathology. Her current interest is working with socially limited students by analyzing social interaction and its implications for school and overall success.
