Course Outline

Foundations and Core Concepts of the Internal Family Systems Therapy Model
With Cece Sykes, LCSW

Master the fundamentals of IFS and learn its key concepts such as categorisation of parts, identifying collective intentions and mapping your client’s inner system.

And you’ll get new and unique methods to work with defensive or vulnerable parts—allowing you to feel confident using IFS therapy with every client.

Effective Use of Direct Access: A Core and Essential Skill for Every IFS Therapist
With Alexia Rothman, PhD and Nancy Sowell, LICSW

This module provides you with step-by-step guidance on how to use direct access to meet your clients and their parts where they are in a compassionate manner so you can pave the way for deep connection and healing.

Using Key IFS Skills and Interventions For Working With Parts
With Alexia Rothman, PhD and Cece Sykes, LCSW

The ability to identify and work with your client’s protective parts is essential to practicing IFS therapy. You'll identify a variety of clients' parts and their functions and how these can contribute to behaviours such as self-harming, suicidal ideation and addiction.

Advanced Skills for Working With Hard To Reach Parts in Your Most Complex Clients
With Nancy Sowell, LICSW

Many of your clients' parts may be unable or unwilling to verbalise due to their age. You’ll refine advanced techniques for working with parts that lack verbal communication and see them in action via a real-life demonstration. You’ll be able to identify when you’re communicating with these Self-like parts, so you can connect with the client’s real Self energy.

Key Strategies for Deepening and Healing the Self To Part Relationship
With Alexia Rothman, PhD and Nancy Sowell, LICSW

For our client’s wounded parts to truly heal, they must connect with their own Self-energy. You’ll get the most effective and practice-proven IFS therapy methods to help your clients achieve deep connection with the Self including the “Six F’s” and a comprehensive guide to unburdening.

The Unique Role of Therapist in IFS Therapy: Countertransference Redefined
With Alexia Rothman, PhD, Cece Sykes, LCSW and Nancy Sowell, LICSW

For us to be effective as IFS therapists, we must be in constant connection with our own Self energy. You’ll discover the “Five P’s” technique you can use to ensure you have enough Self energy to work effectively and proven methods to manage countertransference.

Using IFS requires an equal power balance between therapist and client. You’ll get powerful techniques to ensure this is the case in your practice. Finally, you’ll master the vitally important integration and post-integration stages so you can help clients deepen their healthy internal relationships between sessions and post therapy.

Legacy Burdens, Legacy Benefits and Integration
With Cece Sykes, LCSW and Nancy Sowell, LICSW

Once our clients' parts have been unburdened, this can leave them feeling lost and purposeless once they’re no longer required to perform their protective function. You’ll discover how to help clients integrate their newfound freedom into their day to day lives, including how to approach the end of sessions and therapy altogether.

Finally, you’ll learn everything you need to know about legacy burdens including what they are, where they come from, and how they can be used to actually provide benefits and deepen the internal connection for your clients.
