Description

Part 1

Spanish for Healthcare Providers, you will begin by understanding the fundamentals of learning a foreign language. You’ll learn about where the language is spoken and the basic foundations of the language such as the alphabet and common greetings. As you progress through the module, you’ll learn about culture, nouns, verb conjugation and vocabulary for: numbers, time, money, food, clothing, and anatomy.

Part 2

Spanish for Healthcare Providers, you will begin learning how to conduct patient assessments in Spanish. You’ll also learn family vocab, irregular verbs, skin assessment, respiratory assessment, and cardiovascular assessment. By the completion of the module, you’ll also know vocabulary for colors, giving directions and the proper use of the verbs ser and estar.

Part 3

Spanish for Healthcare Providers, you’ll learn how to assess the gastrointestinal system, the genitourinary system, musculoskeletal system, reproductive system and labor and delivery. You’ll also learn vocabulary for the calendar, professions, emotions, remedies, medical equipment, medications and specialists. 

Part 4

Spanish for Healthcare Providers, you’ll pull all of your skills together to create fluent sentences. You’ll also take a look at complementary and alternative medicine/folk medicine.

Texas Counselors

This self-study activity consists of 16.0 clock hours of continuing education instruction. Texas State Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors no longer approves programs or providers. PESI activities meet the continuing education requirements as listed in Title 22 Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 681, Subchapter J, Section 681.142 Acceptable Continuing Education. Please retain the certificate of completion that you receive and use as proof of completion when required.


Social Workers - National ASWB ACE

PESI, Inc., #1062, is approved as an ACE provider to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. ACE provider approval period: January 27, 2023 - January 27, 2026. As a registered nurse for 36 years, Dr. Long has worked in critical care, emergency medicine, primary care, and endocrinology. She is a professor of nursing at Chamberlain University and family nurse practitioner. She has been a certified diabetes care and education specialist for 25 years and teaches a certified diabetes educator review course. She teaches medical Spanish and one of her favorite activities is taking nurses and allied healthcare professionals each summer to offer free medical clinics to underserved communities around the world with her non-profit organization www.bridgesforhealth.org.

As a published author, she has written a book on how to thrive with diabetes, not just survive, three children’s health books, three books on family history and many professional research articles. She married her college sweetheart, and they have their own "long legacy" of 6 children who teach her what’s really important in life.
