Description
This issue looks at the issue of grief, especially in light of the addition of prolonged grief disorder to the revised edition of the DSM-5 in March. This issue probes the actual, felt experience of grief and how people attempt to grapple with it on their own timetables. One article is a dialogue among three grief specialists about whether the new DSM diagnosis pathologizes grief. Another is a therapist’s testimonial about grappling with the loss of her child and how attachment theory helped her find the language for her grief experience. Another is a therapist’s reflection on her battle with breast cancer and how the experience informed her work with clients. Other pieces cover an Emotionally Focused approach to moving through grief, rethinking how we think about conveying empathy with clients, best practices for setting up and maintaining a client waitlist, and helping couples establish an equitable relationship.
